We’ve Become Wimps

“I don’t know what I’m going to do. I hope FEMA can help me,” quoted by a homeowner in Galveston, Texas. This is the result of an economic system that doesn’t consider the health of the middle class. Those of you who are rich will now realize the truth of your wealth. If we don’t take care of the middle class, you will be forced to by a failed economy and/or government bail outs of banks and other financial institutions.

And now I’m sitting here watching President Bush say “we’re on top of this economic shift.” Shift? Jesus, he sounds like Hoover and pre-1929 all over again. Could it be true? Could we really be that stupid? The wealthy and powerful in our country have lost perspective AGAIN. And you and me in the middle and lower stratosphere will once again pay the price.

Who’s at fault? They all are including our own political leaders on the left. Here are my suggestions:

  • Vote against all incumbents. Period. This includes liberals, conservatives, radicals, etc.
  • Get your financial house under control. Lower debt and increase savings.
  • Stop buying stuff from multinational companies. Only buy local; groceries, gas, restaurants, clothes, hardware, etc.
  • Get to know your neighbors. Host a block party. Find out who’s in need and who can help when needed.
  • Make your home self sufficient where possible. Grow a vegetable garden, capture water, install solar panels and wind turbines.
  • And finally, let’s all get our heads out of our ass and get back to being accountable for our actions and those of our kids, families and neighbors. Don’t depend on government for anything. Take away their power.

Too much? Let me know what you think.
